Χαρούλα Νικολαΐδου

I am a visual artist based in Thessaloniki, Greece, and a graduate of the Visual and Applied Arts program at Aristotle University. My artistic focus revolves around capturing memories, experiences, feelings, and emotions. In my latest series of abstract works, I've delved into exploring new avenues to evoke both emotional and psychological states of mind. I examine the intricate dynamics between individuals and their relationship with the spaces they inhabit, while also delving into the fluidity of identity and the human ego through my visual language and the depiction of the human body.
Employing a mixed media approach and predominantly working on large-scale canvases, I utilize bold colors and a blend of abstraction and figuration. By pushing the boundaries of body representation, my artworks encapsulate the ever-evolving essence of humanity. Through the exaggeration of colors, lines, and forms merging, as well as a painting style reminiscent of collage aesthetics, I challenge onventional expectations and perceptions of the human form.
The emotions of my depicted figures are conveyed through carefully chosen color palettes for each composition, while the intensity of their situations is suggested through the density of lines and the texture of brushstrokes. These fictional characters inhabit the canvas with a playful demeanor, engaging in various activities, whether chatting, hanging out in groups, or relishing moments of solitude.
With my abstract figurations, layered portraits, and familiar yet dreamy compositions, I aim to challenge viewers' perceptions and redirect their focus from the subject matter to the emotional narrative. This series serves as a thought-provoking invitation to introspect and delve inward, representing the journey of the soul.
